sad day

Two weeks from today, I will be a former college professor. I handed in my resignation last night. My heart is broken, but I can no longer be a part of an educational system where passing students because they were present in class rather than successful in it is the norm.

*hugs* I'm sorry, my friend. But, I can understand your position and agree with you whole-heartedly. Something has gone dreadfully wrong with collegiate education when the grades don't reflect the student's ability or absorbtion of the subject matter. Personally, I think it's part of a greater problem where we're slowly devaluing higher education.

It's not just in college! Kids are coasting through the public school system the same way.

It sends a horrible message. If all they have to do is show up, how are they going to get through life?

I am so sorry, Milo...your resignation leaves higher education so much the poorer.
