Probably was purring - it just finished scarfing down a can of chunk turkey, human style. I'm trying to fatten it up for the winter, and from the belly in this shot, you can tell I'm succeeding. I've got it to the point of not running when it hears my voice or sees me looking through a window. I think it might be a girl baby, but I may never be able to be sure at this rate.

I found one at the grocery store's outdoor garden center today. It's precious. The help said the manager told them not to feed it but it still hangs around and hides under the shelves and dashes in and out to explore. I got it to come as far as the edge of the shelf unit to tap my finger a couple of times, then it dove for cover again. You can tell it's tempted to come get affection, as it walks around rubbing up against every shelf leg and plant pot in sight. Every time we got too close it ran for cover. They gave me a handful of kibble and I had it inching toward me as I placed each piece a few inches closer to me. I purred and talked to it as I tossed the bits of kibble and it got to within a few inches but when I reached out it ran for cover again. We played that game for a few minutes, then I finally gave up.

I was thinking I can go back next week--maybe every couple of days, and try again. Bottom line--someone needs to capture it and "fix" it and either release it or adopt it. I can't adopt another--I'd love to but I really can't. I've got WAY too much on my hands now and have to look for a new job in this cratering economy. I might be able to catch it and get a "fix" discount from the vet, but I've got to find a home for it.

I'll take a camera with me next time.
