Can anybody please explain to me in a way that is consistent and not self-contradictory why it is that the very people who are the most determined to meld christian superstition with the government of the United States are the same people who are determined that Iraq needs to be a secular democracy rather than a fundamentalist theocracy?

Because it's convenient to their cause of dominating, getting oil, and ridding the world of a a religious group that doesn't believe as they do.
