personal corporatehood

News reports today indicate that the US government is going to shovel another couple of hundred billion into Bank of America to shore up their ability to pay massive salaries and bonuses to their executives, to reward shareholders for their foresight in buying stock in a company that can't support itself, and to continue to purchase other floundering financial institutions.

According to the laws of our land, corporations have the same rights and prerogatives as individual citizens by virtue of the legal notion of "corporate personhood."

How about we make that go both ways? I'd like to get some bailout money, and I'm as much of a person as Bank of America. It's time for the United States to bail out the "persons" of the country in exactly the same way and with exactly the same generosity and lack of accountability that is being manifested in the current bailout program that apparently only applies to the "corporate" persons in our citizenry. Actually, we deserve it even more, because we aren't hiding our profits in off-shore bank accounts and we put money into the American economy instead of taking it out.

Time to pony up, and don't be stingy about it.
