Tim Russert, dead at 58
Tim Russert died today, collapsing with no warning in the early afternoon while at work in Washington, D.C. I extend my sincere condolences to his family and friends.
However, I will not miss his presence in the media. His nakedly partisan political coverage has been one of the most toxic and corrupting influences on our nation for many years now. I hope that his absence will bring more real balance and honesty to our national discourse.

Frankly, I'm really saddened. I'm with you as far as his giving the bastards a free pass for the last few years. I used to yell and swear at the television when I watched MTP because I really felt he was not challenging them, just sucking up their BS.
I've noticed the last few months that he was starting to give the repugnicans more crap and less slack. I actually cheered a few times during meet the press this year. He was getting combative and accusatory with some of the administration over their actions and policies...
What really got me was during the recent primary coverage when his started lighting up when he talked about Obama and what kind of change was being projected. I think he did all he could to cover up his enthusiasm for Obama's campaign and the possibility of his winning.
I even heard someone on NPR comment similarly on Saturday afternoon. I don't think I was the only one that noticed.
Now they'll probably replace him with some Bill Orally wannabe...
I think that he was probably a very kind and caring man, but anybody that Dick Cheney looks to as a cooperative shill for his propaganda doesn't get a pass for their actions from me, no matter how sweet they may be in polite company.
