questions without answers

"We will eliminate the federal deficit in five years without raising taxes."

"We will sell you a brand-new Ferrari without charging a penny more than your monthly payments on your '89 Taurus."


How is it that the people of this country calmly accept one of these statements despite its obvious absurdity, yet would want the person saying the other one to be arrested as a con man? Is America really that stupid? If it is, we've already lost and we deserve any misfortune that befalls us.

See, it's like this. Smart people tend to have fewer children than stupid people. Therefore, we are being outnumbered by stupid people.

I do not mean to imply that it is stupid to have a large family. I wish more smart people would.
